LEADER+ Transnational Watersports Project
Marketing
It soon became apparent that each region experienced similar patterns regarding numbers of visitors who practise surfing and when they come. Predictably, the summer holidays were the busiest time of the year, and surf related businesses all suffered over the winter months.
To help address this, the three regions decided to produce and distribute a passport style guide, which extol the virtues of visting each surfing area out of season, i.e. better waves, less people etc. It is designed to appeal to both keen and casual surfers, and may include accommodation deals and travel information.
One of the main focuses of the guide will be to provide points of contact of people that work in the surf business and who can provide detailed information about the local area. This information can relate to where to surf and when, depending on ability, potential dangers and environmental factors such as rocks or water quality. Information about where to stay, what else to do and things to see can also be offered. Basically, this information will be better than in any guide, as it will be more detailed and constantly up to date.
