Mark Ayres - LGV Licence
Due to the situation at Appledore Shipyard, Mark Ayres was made redundant. Needing to support his family through a full-time job, Mark retrained to become an LGV driver. There are currently a number of vacancies for LGV drivers across the UK, and as a result of obtaining his LGV licence, his potential job opportunities have increased.

Merlyn is a printmaker working from her permises in Hartland. She also runs workshops for local children. Merlyn wants to expand her business and offer these workshops to adults. Being at an "Intermediate" level, Merlyn required additional training to increase her level of competence, becoming a "master" printmaker. With the assitance of a LEADER+ Local Learning Account grant, Merlyn undertook various Print Making Workshops at West Dean College and Gainsborough House. As a result of the training, Merlyn has raised her skill level and has expanded her business teaching children and adults as well as offering residential courses.

Michael Patt - Forklift, Telescopic Handley, Chainsaw, Dumper Truck and 360 degrees excavator
Michael Patt has been a self-employed farmer for many years and intends to diversify from agriculture into the construction industry. Michael applied to the North West Devon LEADER+ Local Learning Accounts with identified courses which would enable him to gain new skills / qualifications, which would improve his employability.

Jennifer Jarvis - NVQ2 Care
Jennifer is employed at a local care home for adults with learning disabilities and mental health problems. She has been employed in the Care Sector for three and a half years and is experienced. She has had relevent training linked to her job, but does not have an NVQ in Care. Jennifer was successful in obtaining a LEADER+ Local Learning Account grant to undertake an NVQ2 in Care. The course will raise her level of skills, enhancing her current role, safeguard her current job and ensure her future employability in the Care Sector. It will also provide her with a clear career and development pathway and a qualification appropriate to her current level of responsibility.
