Community Projects Grant Scheme - Success Stories

WINKLEIGH BUSINESS DIRECTORY

A local community group that aims to develop the area by promoting the increase of spending within the local economic wheel in Winkleigh:

- Collation of access information for all businesses in the area
- Compiliation of a database
- Printing of a directory
- Production of a CD ROM in response to demand
- Distribution of directory and CD ROM

The match funding is made with in-kind time due to the admin heavy nature of the project.

TWO PARISHES FESTIVAL

The local Parish Church Council created a Festival Committee to organise and search out funding for a celebration of the creativity of the residents of Buckland Filleigh and Shebbear. The local primary school produced 56 colourful, medieval upright banners during their Art Week. During the Festival the standards lined the road between the two parishes. This week long event in August combined art exhibitions, BBQ's, the opening of their archives, choir concerts, flower and barn dances and a children's treasure hunt, craft sessions and a safari lunch.

TORRIDGE POVERTY ACTION GROUP

They have been operating since September 2000 and were able to help 540 contacts in 2002-03. The amount of work required by the very committed volunteers and management was excessive. The need for a focal point in the group to coordinate the current activities and develop the future direction became apparent.

North West Devon LEADER+ funding has helped to fund a coordinator for one year combined with donated funds.
