LEADER+ Transnational Watersports Project
Beach and Sea Safety
This theme of the project has developed into a training exchange between an organisation in Brittany which prepares pupils for the French National Beach Life Guard qualification, and a Surf Life Saving Club in North Devon. There will be exchange visits to assess training methods, dissemination of Surf Live Saving Club culture and exploring the possibility of international standard Surf Live Saving qualifications.
Saunton Sands Surf Life Saving Club (SSSLSC) are involved in North Devon, and they will be welcoming representative from the Association de Preperation aux Examens des activities Aquatiqes (APEA) at the beginning of May 2005 for the first training visit. SSSLSC have been helpful and accommodating, which is essential for a project like this to progress.
The APEA are planning to train over the summer using Surf Life Saving Association (SLSA) techniques, and will return in the autumn with prospective beach life guards to take a variety of qualifications and learn new techniques.Representatives from SSSLSC will visit Brittany in September 2006, and will be given a variety of training by the APEA and by the Prompiers. Both parties are keen to maintain contact to share information and best practice.
