Art Action Grant Scheme
The Art Action Grant is aimed at community groups who want to carry out any arts activity. The group does not have to be arts oriented in order to appy for the grant. The funding will be for gaining access to resources or expertise that builds the abilities of the group. The project should not have been undertaken by the group previously.
What can I use the grant for?
Outline eligibility
- An In Bloom committee could comission a landscape artist to design and build a feature such as a bridge, sculpture or viewing platform within the parish for the benefit of the whole area.
- A parish hall committee could engage an artist to stage a fireworks event for Guy Fawkes Night incorporating workshops with local residents.
- A visual arts group could engage an artist to run a series of classes for young and/or older people, resulting in an exhibition or production of artefacts.
This could similarly apply to a crafts group.
- A theatre group could commission a writer to develop an original script, a musical director for music theatre or designer for the production.
- A musical group could buy some new equipment to prevent continued hiring of a PA system and increase the quality of their performance.
All activities must be in conjunction with the community group. You are not able to just commission someone to carry out some work.
All activities must be new projects.
How do I apply
Please contact the LEADER+ team to obtain an application form.
The LEADER+ team will be able to advise you on whether your proposals will be eligible for the grant, and may be able to assist you with completing the application form. However, grants are allocated at the discretion of a panel and officers cannot guarantee the success of any application.
In order to apply independently you need to be a constituted community group with audited accounts. If not, there are several larger community groups such as North Devon Arts who are able to act as mentors for the group to assist with the application and forming a list of aims and objectives for the group.
How long will the grant scheme last?
It is intended that the grant will be available until 31st December 2008. However, there is only a limited amount of available funding that will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that the grant scheme may be closed to applications before the above date.
When will I know if my application is successful?
We must receive your application at least two weeks before the grant panel meeting at which it will be considered. The whole application process can take up to two months. From time to time the panel may feel that it has insufficient information to allow it to reach a decision. In these cases it may defer the application to a future meeting to allow you to provide additional details.
